Even though Macau has a reputation for gambling and extravagance that is closely reached by boat from Hong Kong, I would like to present another aspect that Macau has to offer tourists. When I took the boat from Hong Kong to visit Macau in 2011 after I had been living in Asia for one year, I was elated to see some traces of European influence.
While I confess that I did pull one or two slots throughout my day trip to Macau, I also marveled at the remains of the Portuguese colonization from centuries past. Additionally, I was able to find my first affordable high quality red wine in one year, which I greatly enjoyed while eating delicious authentic Portuguese cuisine.
